Built in 1906, this one room schoolhouse served students of the rapidly growing mill town of Camano City. The recent acquisition of the Fire Hall will host the soon to open Fire House Museum.

Kristoferson Barn has been the hub of farm operations for the Kristoferson family for over 100 years. This barn was built in 1914 from Douglas Fir milled on site.

Utsalady Ladies Aid was founded in 1908 and is the second oldest organization in Island County. The building was constructed in 1923.

The local grange was established in 1930 and known for its clam dinners, dances, and for providing youth activities. In July of 1949, they sponsored and coordinated the volunteer effort to build Camano Island State Park in just one day.

Cama Beach was a 1930s-era fishing resort complete with waterfront cedar cabins and bungalows. In 1990, the property was turned into a state park.

In 1904 Sterling J. Barnum arrived on Camano Island from Binghamton, New York. After searching the island by boat, he bought 110 acres and cleared 40 of them for a farm.

A community initiated and supported park. In 1949, ninety-two acres of land was acquired for a park. The initial development was accomplished in one day by nearly 500 public spirited volunteers from Stanwood and Camano Island.

Lutheran churches had a long tradition of establishing their own cemeteries. Records of burials appear as early as 1909.

Camano Island’s early settlers and some Native Americans are buried here. The cemetery was originally platted in 1887. There are many unmarked graves. The new 2021 sign maps the history of many of the gravesites.

During the 1920s and 1930s, the park was once a logging boom owned by the English Lumber Company. Trees were hauled to the water, tied together and pulled by tug to sawmills.

Its original appeal was for logging; the Douglas Firs were logged and imported from all over the world. Saw mills were constructed, which sparked further development, and suddenly there was a blacksmith, saloon, hotel, and school.

The Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was restored in 2003 by the Stanwood Area Historical Society to host music, arts, cultural and family events, as it once did in the early 1990s.

Built in 1890, the D.O. Pearson House belonged to the first mayor of Stanwood. Pearson became the sixth Postmaster in seven years, changing the town’s postal designation to a less commonly used name of Stanwood, the maiden name of his wife Clara.

The S.A. Thompson House, now known as "Stanwood House", was built sometime between 1900 and 1908. The house is a two-story hipped roof colonial with full front and side porches.
