The Stanwood House will host an art exhibit during the Historic Sites Tour. All are also invited to the opening on Thursday, August 25th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Piano music of the 1920's will be played from 7 to 7:30 p.m. by pianist Linda Younce.
The Stanwood House is the home of Bezalel - Levy, a 30 -year husband and wife art collaboration including painting, sculpture, ceramics, publishing, and workshops.
The S.A. Thompson House, also known as Stanwood House, was built between 1900 and 1906 by Sven Thompson, who owned the General Store next door.
It is a lovely example of Colonial Revival style which was popular at the time. The old building has been restored and retains the feeling of a stately home with fir floors, picture frame molding, and glass pane doors.
In the 60's and 70's the home served as the home and studio of Mrs. Truesdale, who gave art lessons.
Two adjacent buildings, designed by architect Dan Nelson, house a ceramic studio and a painting studio.
For the past 20 years, it has served as the home, studios, and gallery of husband and wife artists, Chaim Bezalel and Yonnah Ben Levy who also maintain a home and studio in Israel. To the right is Chaim's piece titled "Sons of Norway".
